Fall Survey of our Community

In September 2023, we surveyed our students, staff, and families with the following questions:

  1. Do you feel welcome at School?

  1. Which one of the values below do you feel is the most important value as a part of the Brighouse community?  Staff narrowed down the following values that were then asked to students and families in the survey: community, collaboration, kindness, compassion, connection, teamwork, perseverance, and respect.

  1. What do you think we can do to help all people feel welcome in the Brighouse Community?

  2.

- 83% of respondents indicated that they felt welcome at school all or most of the time.

- 16% of respondents indicated that they felt welcome at school sometimes or rarely.

- 1% indicated that they never feel welcome at school.

Most people responded by choosing the value of Kindness as the most important part of the Brighouse Community.

Staff, students and families asked for opportunities to connect as a community.

Next Steps:

  • Our SWIS worker is holding an online workshop for parents to introduce them to Brighouse and to answer questions so that they feel more connected to the school. The PAC is planning social events to encourage more parents to come into the school and be a part of the community.

  •

  • We have applied for an Inquiry grant around social-emotional learning to help create more connections for our students. We are looking at ways to bring the school together – through schoolwide family teams, buddies, assemblies, sports (volleyball, running club). The students have also created name buttons to wear when they are at school so that staff and students can call each other by name.

  •

  • We are creating a food security committee to help ensure that our students have daily access to food.

  •

  • We have reached out to district consultants to work with us with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to help meet with staff and students and talk about ways we can work together to help everyone in our community feel welcome.
