Fostering the Joy Of Reading: Camp Read
| An action that we have taken to support our school’s learning focus is: | To foster a love for reading, we ended our family teams this year with a school-wide buddy reading activity called ‘Camp Read’. |
| This action supports our school’s learning focus in the following ways: | At Brighouse, we believe that an important part of developing confident readers is helping children understand that reading can support emotional regulation and build self-confidence, enabling them to become lifelong readers. When students were asked what helps them feel more confident as readers, many shared that they enjoy exploring new books and value the support they receive from their families and school staff in selecting meaningful and engaging reading materials. Buddy reading is another way that younger children can build connections with older students, while older students gain confidence in their ability to support others with reading. This activity also helps foster meaningful connections within our large and diverse school community.
