Literacy Development
Continuing with our goal and using the data from last year we have continued with focusing on Literacy development – specifically in the area of reading. Every student in our school (with the exception of kindergarten) were given a reading assessment this fall. This is to create a baseline for instruction. Last spring we worked as a team learning how to consistently assess the reading samples.
Through reading report cards, at IEP meetings and through the various school, district, and provincial level data collections– we noticed a trend that many of our students were struggling with learning how to read.
Looking at the data from our 2023-24 report cards we saw that 40% of our students were developing in English language arts and 8.5% were emerging.
Twenty out of 139 grade 4 and 7 FSA are emerging in literacy.
61% of our students are English language learners
Our school story has evolved into supporting our students in literacy
