Cultural and Community Assemblies
As part of our school focus of creating community and connections we have curated assemblies as a way of bringing our school community together. We are fortunate to have people from many different cultural backgrounds who are willing to share their traditions and therefore bring more acceptance and knowledge of others to our school.
Our latest assembly focused on Ramadan, Eid and Vaisakhi, with a side of Earth Day added in.
This focus fits with the school district's strategic plan - #2 Equity and Inclusion
“Equity and inclusion are foundational to learning and leading, and are critical to success, wellbeing, and fulfillment. It is our mission to ensure that all of our students, families, and staff feel welcomed, are treated respectfully, and have a sense of belonging. We acknowledge our responsibility to support all learners so they may successfully complete their education with a sense of dignity, purpose, and options.”
Goal 1: District learning environments are equitable and inclusive.
OBJECTIVES
-
Support all learners to develop a sense of connection, belonging and positive personal and cultural identity.
We have formed a diversity, equity and inclusion committee to help facilitate our assemblies as well we are planning on going deeper into this area. Assemblies were the starting point to our school DEI goal.
