Heroic Profiles
How does who we are as a community (through works of art, storytelling and acts of kindness) impact student learning?
The students in Division 1 created heroic profiles:
We explored different elements of the attached Martin Luther King Jr. poster around the time of his holiday.
We studied how the extreme contrast highlights only the strongest features of the portrait. Then we discussed the word chosen for the bottom of the portrait as being a representation of the person’s values.
This relates to our Personal Awareness and Responsibitlity Core Competencies, particularly:
• I can stand up for my ideas
• I can see a better me and a better world
• I can care about things bigger than me
Students took photos of themselves, then edited these photos using Pixlr. They then coloured the darkest areas and trimmed them using scissors and box cutters. They then prepared a watercolour background and glued their outline portrait onto the background.
